I have a weird love/hate relationship with Azealia Banks. To this day, “212” remains my jam, but on the flip side, her mouth will be the death of her career. That being said, something always brings me back to her music.
She keeps it interesting, even though I don’t agree with 95% of the things she says. Her flow is untouchable, partly because she is rapping over a different style of production. It is not your average “rap” music, it can cross genres. All of that being said, I only listened to select songs from her most recent mixtape Slay-Z, but I might have to go back and take a listen because I am really feeling this track.
Anyway, take a look at the video above, and let me know what you think!
Azealia was one of my favorites when she released ‘212’, since then she has come off as quite cocky, without even so much as an album behind her belt, so I kind of lost interest in her. She recently got dropped, or ‘set free’ as she calls it, from her record label, so I was interested in seeing what she had in store now that she wasn’t controlled by a label. ‘Heavy Metel and Reflective’ is the first offering from her very long overdue debut album Broke With Expensive Taste, and I have to say I am kind of feeling it. It is hard hitting, and there is something about her flow that I can’t deny, the beat is perfect for her sound, and while the song is a little on the short side, she brings it. Here is to hoping she cleans up her attitude because ‘212‘ is still one of my favorites.
Azealia Banks debuts a new single ‘ATM Jam’ which she premiered over Glastonbury weekend. ‘ATM’ is a hard hitting drum based single with a feature from Pharrell. I am a bit underwhelmed with it, although it might be a grower. I always compare her tracks to the track that got me hooked on her, ‘212’. Either way she goes in on this track like she usually does, but it’s just not my favorite Azealia tune.
Azealia Banks finally releases her debut single, from her upcoming album Broke With Expensive Taste, I have to say its freaking fantastic. It takes a couple of listens to grow, but when it comes down to it, it definitely sounds like an angry version of her previous hit single ‘212’. I’m not sure how well this track is going to do on the charts, seeing as it very different from her other radio friendly tracks, but I think now that she has a following she could do well.
Covering the internet sensation the ‘Harlem Shake‘ not too long ago, she continues her streak of covers with a very UK Garage sounding vibe single covering The Strokes’ ‘Barely Legal’. I have to say that Azealia surprises me every single time she releases a single. She is extremely versatile as far as flowing over beats goes, and this is no exception. This cover is fantastic, and along with the cover, she finally dropped the release date for her long awaited single from her Debut album Broke With Expensive Taste, which will feature her premier single ‘Yung Rapunxel’ due to hit itunes March 26th!
Get ready world, Azealia is going to slay!
The original Harlem Shake has blown up in the last 2 weeks, and of course one of the most talked about rappers has thrown out a remix for us. Azealia Banks, no doubt, fits perfectly over this beat because she first blew up with “212”, so this is naturally where she belongs. The lyrics are controversial just like her, and I absolutely love this song. As for her original material, her first single “Young Rapunzel” is supposed to be dropping sometime soon. Enjoy this for now, because I believe when she drops her first official single, she will begin her world domination.
Azealia Banks never fails ever in life. This video is perfection just like her. This is the first visual off her Fantasea mixtape, and what a way to start it off. There is nothing else to say about her anymore, she is at the top of her game and as soon as her album drops it deserves to be number 1.
